IntroductionThe alpine hut Campei di Fondo is nestled in the heart of the Upper Garda Park, at about 14 kilometres from lake Garda and the municipality of Toscolano Maderno and at 20 kilometres from Idro lake in an area called “Land between the two lakes”. We are in the Campiglio Valley, 780 mt above sea level, near the unspoilt “wilderness” area of the Park, location of an important flora and wildlife restocking programme. . We are renovating an old building dating back to the XVII century that will be ready by July 2011. 3 guests rooms with 8 beds and a shared bathroom, a dining room and a living room with a beautiful fireplace will be at first available. The structure will host riders and horses, hikers, mountain bikers, families with children, birdwatchers, small groups of friends or sport associations, and above all people interested in a relaxing holiday, away from the frantic rhythm of city life in a simple but comfortable milieu in contact with nature. It will also be an ideal place for a break on long distance excursions or a good base for touring the area on daily walks or rides or simply enjoying a quiet rest and doing nothing all day long. Our project is to transform an old farmhouse, where a small community lived and was self-sufficient in the past, into a comfortable but as sustainable as possible facility and to preserve the charm and uniqueness of a respectful life-style in tune with nature and its rhythms. You can book horse rides starting from Scuderia Castello or you can come with your horse and book a guide service with Fitetrec Ante. Its strategic position between lake Garda and Valsabbia makes the alpeggio an ideal base both for long horse trekkings and daily hikings in the region. The water supply to the house is granted by a small aqueduct that takes water from a nearby stream. Thanks to its constant flow and position, it will be possible to use a micro- turbine that will provide enough electricity for the house needs. The exceeding energy will be conveyed to warm water. Fireplaces and stoves will be fuelled by wood wastes in winter. In some areas you can use your own mobile phone.

HistoryThe whole building-complex consists of a main building dating back to the XVIIth century, that included a large stable and a hut where cheese and butter were made, and a small nearby house at Campei di mezzo (middle location), which is now completely ruined. Together with Campei di Cima (Upper location), the building belonged to a well organized and self-sufficient alpine hut where a small community used to live. The Andreolis, a family from Armo, a small municipality in Valvestino, owned it originally. They were herdsmen who had settled in the XVIIth century in the small village of S. Maria of Navazzo in Monte Gargnano where they started their various activities. At first they bred cattle, then began selling dairy products, thus earning money to buy pastures and woodlands in the region. They first settled in a hut in Campei di Cima, where in 1602 they built a small chapel dedicated to S. Maria della Neve ( our Lady of the Snow). Every year on August 5th a mass is celebrated in honour of the Madonna. The small group of houses has been recently renovated and is run by the local Alpine Club of Salò. Campei di Fondo (lower location) has a similar history to that of the whole valley. Since it was purchased by Ersaf in the 70’s, the farmhouse has been abandoned, except for occasional summer colonies and seasonal pastures by local farmers. The farm has undergone many major structural changes, especially in the '80s.
CousineOur cuisine is centred on local ingredients and draws inspiration from typical dishes and uses products grown on our farm such as vegetables, olive oil, seasonal fruit (apples, cherries, pears and plums) and berries. Since we also grow our own meat, we have created delicious recipes using all cuts in respect of the culinary tradition of our region: boiled meat, chops, tenderloin stew, and of course the spiedo bresciano (brescian spit) traditionally served with polenta. We also serve lake fish we buy from local fishermen. The products we don’t grow on our farm are only purchased from local reliable farmers. The restaurant is open at lunch and dinner for our guests and for all gourmets who wish to taste our specialities, previous booking. We serve a light lunch with delicious, quick dishes prepared with fresh products, depending on the season, from our vegetable garden at an excellent quality-price ratio. We also recommend the best local wines of the nearby Valtenesi. SurroundingsThe countryside offers a big variety of short or long itineraries suitable for all tastes and skill levels.
